The Laboratory Assistant III works under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will write Python and R scripts to analyze sequence data, use bioinformatic tool packages to visualize data, maintain and create databases, assist in data interpretation and literature search, upkeep lab computers, and keep accurate and current records of all results.
- Demonstrated experience in bioinformatic data analysis, statistical analysis of genomic data and sequence data.
- Demonstrated experience in programming using Python and R. Ability to understand computational protocols and to trouble shoot them.
- Ability to use standard bioinformatic tools and public databases.
- Ability to maintain and use in-house large databases.
- Ability to maintain a laboratory record containing clear well-organized summaries of scripts and results.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships in the laboratory.
- Knowledge of University guidelines relating to computational safety. Can be trained
- Ability to organize and analyze data sets with minimal supervision.
- Ability to analyze computational results, define technical problems, and formulate logical conclusions.
- Ability to teach others in lab: programming skills, database management and usage, computer maintenance.
- Education and experience equivalent to two years in a bioinformatic lab.
