Lecturer Positions in the Composition Program 2011-2012

The Department of English invites applications for full-year Lecturers (adjunct faculty) to teach first-year composition courses during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters of 2011-2012, pending the availability of funding. Beginning-level positions are typically filled at 50% (4 courses); returning Lecturers with several quarters of experience and an excellent teaching record may be awarded more courses, as enrollment allows.

Requirements - MA (PhD preferred) in English, Composition, or a related field, or an MFA in Creative Writing; three years of college-level teaching experience (experience in first-year composition is preferred). Current PhD or MFA candidates must file their dissertation or thesis by June 30, 2011 to be eligible for a full-year appointment.

Annual full-time salaries begin at $44,636; eligible for benefits and membership in the UC Retirement System. UCI Lecturers are represented by AFT. The service period for the quarters is:

Application Procedure - Applicants must submit a letter of application and curriculum vitae. The letter of application should include the applicant’s philosophy of teaching, including a reflection on things learned about writing pedagogy in previous teaching experiences. Applicants who have never taught in the UCI Composition Program should include in their application full and representative sets of instructor evaluations. Appointment decisions will be made by a committee of Composition Program and English Department faculty.
