Position: Tenured Professor and Chair
The University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, invites applicants for Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This position will be a tenured senate (FTE) professorial position.
The University of California, Irvine, has a vibrant scientific community with outstanding collaborative opportunities, including, but not limited to, developmental cell and molecular biology, translational biomedical science, stem cell research, biomedical informatics, pharmaceutical sciences and genomic medicine. The newly built UC Irvine Douglas Hospital is a 392-bed tertiary medical center and is home to specialty services including an NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, H. H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center, UC Irvine Regional Burn Center and the only Level I trauma center in Orange County.
Within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine on the Irvine campus are research laboratories and a Ph.D. program in Experimental Pathology. The department has maintained a tradition of excellence in research with successful extramural funding in programs such as neuroscience, infectious disease, oncology and immunology. Located in Orange at the UC Douglas Hospital, the clinical department provides diagnostic services to UCI Healthcare patients and also provides consultative and referral services to more than 33 hospitals in Orange County and 31 other regional hospitals. The department has 23 faculty members and has a strong affiliation with the Long Beach Veteran's Administration Healthcare System and the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. The clinical laboratory is housed in a newly designed, spacious and well-equipped teaching, research and support complex of 46,000 sq. ft., in which there are nine divisions supported by 431 clinical laboratory scientists, supervisors and staff.
The department also has a resident training program with specialty fellowships in cytopathology and gastrointestinal pathology. The interactive environment encourages individuals to excel and achieve their professional and personal goals to teach, heal and discover.
Requirements - Applicants for this position should possess M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degrees, board certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology and meet requirements for appointment as tenured senate (FTE) professorial position. Candidates should have a strong record of scholarly activity and peer reviewed publications, including a research program with a stellar record of sustained extramural funding. The candidates should also hold, or be eligible for, a medical license in the State of California. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management of all administrative and operational processes of the department, providing not only comprehensive, interactive clinical services, but also supporting the teaching, educational and research missions of the department. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse academic and clinical environment.
