The School of Engineering at The University of Alaska, Anchorage, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Systems Engineering beginning August 2012. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in Computer Systems Engineering and upper division courses in the candidate's areas of expertise.

The Computer Systems Engineering program is accredited by ABET and is housed in the School of Engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates with areas of expertise in computer architecture, compiler design, digital circuit design, embedded systems, power-aware / energy-efficient hardware and networks but other excellent candidates will be considered.

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is the largest of the three main campuses of the University of Alaska system, serving nearly 20,000 students. Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, with an ethnically diverse population of 290,000, offers a lively intellectual and cultural life, including opera, symphony, theatre, art events, and varied restaurants. Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.

Teach undergraduate courses in computer systems engineering.
Work collaboratively in research and academic projects with faculty across disciplines.
Excellent writing skills.
Advise and work with a diversity of individuals and groups, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, university administration, and the public.
Be a spokesperson for the program and the university.
Acquire funding from external sources, and publish in peer-reviewed outlets in the field.

Typical education or training required for this position.

Ph.D. In Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering with Emphasis on Computer or Digital Systems, or Information Systems. Candidates with ABD at time of application may be considered with the requirement that the Ph.D. must be awarded before August 2012.

Publications or other evidence of quality work in progress is required.

Length of time and type of experience required for this position.

Must have a commitment to excellence in teaching and research with the desire to participate in public-service.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position.

Previous college-level teaching experience and professional work experience preferred.
