Creates and utilizes a variety of technologies and media for the advancement of library goals and objectives. The successful candidate will have an active role in collection development, particularly with e-resources and academic software.

Responsibilities:
The University of Alabama seeks a librarian with innovative ideas focused on development and delivery of user-centric library services. The successful candidate assists teaching faculty with integration of library resources using course management software, provides instruction and information services, and promotes the library’s value and resources both onsite and to remote users. Plans and coordinates activities for individuals who are involved in creative programs and communities in the sciences and engineering, such as undergraduate research and Honors College. Promotes collaboration and shared information experiences among graduate students. Assists with development and implementation of assessment initiatives aimed at improving services and collections. Creates and utilizes a variety of technologies and media for the advancement of library goals and objectives. The successful candidate will have an active role in collection development, particularly with e-resources and academic software. As a member of a cross-departmental working group with membership from the Libraries, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Engineering, the successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the libraries’ support/sponsorship of technologies and services to facilitate e-science at the University of Alabama. This position collaborates with a broad range of stakeholders to conceptualize, define, and deliver contemporary services in support of cutting-edge approaches in science and engineering instruction and research. Candidate will work in a team environment in the libraries.

Required: Master’s degree in Library & Information Sciences from an ALA accredited institution or a related field and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the sciences or engineering, with a minimum of 3 years post-degree experience in a research library or research-based science or engineering library. Candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be motivated and organized, and have the ability to interact effectively with faculty, students and staff. The candidate must be knowledgeable about science and engineering resources and services, as well as current and emerging trends in science and engineering libraries. Must possess the ability to reach out to users and create innovative services as needed. Demonstrated knowledge of Web development tools to facilitate library goals. Documented experience working in dynamic environments where new services are tested, evaluated, and adapted.

Preferred: Demonstrated familiarity with typical academic software used by students and faculty in the sciences and engineering. Experience with e-only libraries. Experience with some aspect of e-science support.
