Position Summary: This position is for the Head Coach in Men's Wheelchair Basketball at the University of Alabama. The person in this position will report to the Director of Adapted Athletics and will work with the Director of Adapted Athletics as well as, assistant coaches, athletic trainers, university faculty, recreation directors and university academic advisors to determine the appropriate practice, competition and training activities for wheelchair athletes. The coach will also represent the University of Alabama at various official functions and outreach activities as well as recruit student athletes to the University of Alabama and direct supplemental wheelchair basketball camps and clinics as needed. The initial appointment will be for 1 year with the prospect of the appointment becoming a three year renewable non-tenure earning position. This position will be renewed annually based on performance and funding.
Minimum Preferred Qualifications: The University of Alabama College of Education Department of Kinesiology/UA Adapted Athletics Clinical Instructor of Wheelchair Basketball (Non-Tenure Track: Renewable) The initial appointment will be for 1 year with the prospect of the appointment becoming a three year renewable non-tenure earning position. This position will be renewed annually based on performance and funding. Minimum Qualifications: * A Master's degree in adapted sport, coaching, exercise science or a related field. * Wheelchair Basketball coaching experience. * In lieu of a Master's degree, a Bachelor's degree with at least five years of wheelchair basketball coaching experience in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) or International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) will be considered for Lecturer position. Preferred Qualifications: * Collegiate Wheelchair Basketball coaching experience * Ability to plan and conduct daily wheelchair basketball practices. * Ability to coach a 30-35 game season that requires significant travel. * Ability to recruit and retain students in wheelchair athletics program. * Ability to represent the University at official functions. * Ability to plan and direct wheelchair basketball camps and clinics. * Ability to advise and support students to achieve academic success and retention. * Ability to coach wheelchair tennis, adapted golf or para-rowing as a secondary sport.
