Position Summary: The College of Arts and Sciences is hiring an online instructor in English. All courses will be lower-level undergraduate courses (freshman composition or sophomore-level literature surveys). Most sections will consist of high school students enrolled in Early College and taking college courses for credit. The instructor will be expected to teach college-approved online course content and facilitate each course in accordance with best practices for online instruction. Online English courses have already been developed using discipline-specific departmental guidelines, and all follow a standard syllabus and course schedule. Instructors facilitate online discussions, provide feedback on all written work, and grade according to the College's grading standards. Instructors must be available to participate in their online courses five days per week, particularly in the evenings. An instructor selected for this position does not have to live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (home of The University of Alabama) in order to qualify for consideration for on-line teaching, but first preference will be given to those who physically work in Tuscaloosa. Selected instructor will: actively facilitate course content; guide student discussion; provide frequent, timely, and meaningful feedback to online students; submit class rolls, grades, etc., by institutionally required communication methods and deadlines; maintain required records and reports for each course assigned; have weekly collaboration with other online instructors in other disciplines, as needed by Early College; refer students with special needs to the appropriate College resources; and utilize The University of Alabama or College of Arts and Sciences email to stay informed about institutional information for all communication with online learning.
Minimum Preferred Qualifications: The University of Alabama, College of Arts and Sciences is looking for non-tenure earning full time, renewable instructor to teach online courses in English. This position is renewable based on need, availability of funds, and performance. Minimum qualifications include: - Minimum educational experience includes: MA or MS in discipline . - Preferred educational experience - MFA or PhD in discipline. - Two-year teaching and one-year online teaching experience in English (preferably EN 101, EN 102 and 200-level literature surveys). - Must have a passion for helping students learn especially using technology.
