Position Summary: The successful applicant will teach studio foundations courses, provide leadership in the development of foundations curricula within an evolving studio arts program, and work effectively with a pool of instructors to ensure the curriculum is being implemented effectively across multiple course sections. Other responsibilities include: maintaining an active program of creative research and scholarship; advising and mentoring undergraduate students; program and facilities management; serving on graduate degree committees; serving on departmental, college and university committees; community outreach and program recruitment.
Minimum Preferred Qualifications: The Department of Art and Art History at The University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of Art, Foundations Specialist, beginning August 16, 2014. Candidates must possess a strong commitment to the university mission of teaching, research and service. Applicants should demonstrate teaching experience in one or more foundations areas, which might include drawing, 2-D design, 3-D design, and/or emerging areas like installation, digital, or performance art. Applicants must present a strong exhibition record demonstrating an active studio/scholarly practice. Teaching and creative activities should indicate that the candidate is well-versed in the intrinsic nature of materials and techniques, and familiar with the social, political, and cultural concerns of contemporary art. Required qualifications: - M.F.A. or PhD. in any studio art discipline - Minimum two years of college-level teaching experience beyond student teaching - Evidence of leadership/organizational capability -Evidence of scholarship/creative research that can build towards tenure at a research institution - Demonstrated familiarity with traditional and contemporary approaches to teaching studio foundations
