Position Summary: Teach in the areas of rhetoric and public discourse, especially critical decision making, rhetorical criticism, argumentation, and public address, as well as graduate courses in the department. Advise undergraduate and graduate students, serve on committees, and provide professionally related service.
Minimum Preferred Qualifications: THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA seeks an assistant professor to fill a full time, 3-year renewable contract teaching position, starting 16 August 2014. This is a non-tenure earning position, renewable at the discretion of the University based on performance, need, and available funding. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach in the department's core areas of rhetoric and public discourse (critical decision making, rhetorical criticism, argumentation, and public address), as well as have the qualifications for teaching graduate courses in the department. Qualifications for the position include a completed PhD/EdD by 16 August 2014. Normal teaching load is 24 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities for summer employment exist. Undergraduate and graduate academic advising, departmental committee assignments, and professionally related service are expected. Evidence of strong teaching is required along with strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
