Position Title: Instructor
Position Summary:
Teach undergraduate levels (beginning/intermediate/advanced) of Arabic (MSA) language courses. Teaching load of twelve credit hours per semester. Coordinate with the Director of the Critical Languages Center (CLC) in development of program/curriculum/teaching materials in Arabic language for both traditional and online courses. Attend meetings of both Modern Languages and Classics and Critical Languages Center; help the director of CLC in advising students of Arabic language; develop program/curriculum/teaching materials in Arabic language courses including online Arabic courses in conjunction with the online course supervisor; coordinate with other international programs at UA to promote Arabic and Middle East culture and Study Abroad programs.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a non-tenure earning full-time position in Arabic, beginning August 16, 2013. The Instructorship is a two-year renewable position, based on performance, need, and availability of funds. Applicants should have strong pedagogical/language interests related to Arabic language and culture of Middle East and should be committed to the development of the Arabic Program. Familiarity with instructional technology and ability to develop online courses required. Master’s Degree in the field of Arabic, language pedagogy, or second language acquisition or other relevant discipline required. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching Arabic (MSA). Native or near-native fluency in both Arabic and English. Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in the field of Arabic, language pedagogy, or second language acquisition or other relevant discipline.
