Enterprise Applications, a directorate within UIT, supports and enhances the efforts of the University in teaching and research. The department is comprised of client facing customer service professionals with experience in application development and support, project management, client/server and mainframe legacy systems management, database administration, systems administration and web development. Members of the Enterprise Applications department work with staff from each of the schools and central departments to define and develop appropriate technology in support of business requirements.
Reporting directly to the Manager of Technology Services, the Videoconferencing/Collaboration Specialist will play a lead role in further developing remote collaboration as a UIT professional service. This will entail delivering remote collaboration technologies and services and providing consulting and training support for faculty and administrative clients within the Tufts community. She/he will work as part of a team of technology colleagues to help to define and ensure the successful delivery of Tufts University´s remote collaboration service model, including videoconferencing and web-conferencing services. The Videoconferencing/Collaboration Specialist position has been created in support of an important institutional goal of building capacity within UIT to support and promote videoconferencing and web-conferencing services. The Videoconferencing/Collaboration Specialist will draw on knowledge of videoconferencing and web-conferencing standards, as well as other emerging remote collaboration technologies to inform and continually enhance excellent delivery of service for the Tufts academic and administrative communities and affiliates.
The Videoconferencing/Collaboration Specialist will be the client facing representative for the communities that UIT supports. He/she will develop support materials and provide training sessions for clients on the use of video and web conferencing and other remote collaboration technologies as they are used for particular academic and administrative purposes. The Videoconferencing/Collaboration Specialist researches trends in remote collaboration in higher education and across relevant industries; engages in continuous learning about new video and web-based collaboration technologies; and shares information regularly with colleagues and clients through UIT meetings, workshops, presentations, and publications.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three plus (3+) years of related experience OR a High School diploma and at least six (6) years of related experience
- Knowledge of current video conferencing and web conferencing technologies and comfort learning and teaching clients to use new remote collaboration technologies as they emerge
- Demonstrated skill with productivity applications (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software) and with web-based productivity and collaboration tools
- Proven experience assisting clients in meeting their communication and collaboration goals with support of video conferencing, web conferencing, or similar technologies
- Experience required with legacy video conferencing systems, Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) and Gateway configuration, video conferencing standards such as ISDN, H.320, and H.323
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical individuals
- Experience and demonstrated track record of researching trends and best practices in video and web conferencing and translating that knowledge into effective services and support resources for clients
- Project management skills and experience required
- Must be able to work effectively in both team and independent settings
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Understanding of networking and video conferencing delivery standards
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge in IP-based and ISDN video conferencing systems, such as Tandberg is preferred. Fundamental knowledge of IP transport, QOS, and RTP is a plus. Additional experience in compression algorithms such as H.263 and H.264 and High-Definition video applications is beneficial.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: The majority of the work for this position is performed during normal business hours Monday through Friday. However, there may be an occasional need to work during evening and weekend hours as required for special events and circumstances.
