Associate Dean
College of Education

The College of Education (COE) at Towson University is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Dean.  The COE Associate Dean holds a 12-month staff position and is a member of the academic leadership team of the college and of the university.

Responsibilities: The Associate Dean assists the Dean in: a) day-to-day management of the COE; b) planning, implementing and evaluating new COE initiatives; c) working with academic chairpersons and other campus units to accomplish the COE mission and strategic objectives; and d) monitoring course scheduling and strategic course matrix planning.  The Associate Dean also assists the Dean with faculty recruitment, selection, assignment and development; coordinating student advising across the COE; and resolving some student and student-faculty issues.  The Associate Dean coordinates with the Assistant Dean to maintain a variety of COE databases and assists data collection for university and external reports (e.g., NCATE) that are generated from the Dean’s office.

Requirements: The successful applicant must have at least five years of experience in a university/education setting, possess a terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the college, and have a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service that warrants a tenured faculty appointment.  The successful candidate will show evidence of high level organizational and management skills and knowledge of cutting-edge trends in K-12 and higher education.  Priority will be given to candidates with in-depth knowledge of Maryland regulations related to teacher preparation and national accreditation policies.  Applicants must demonstrate prior academic leadership experience; the ability to work collaboratively with others; and, to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with diverse groups within and beyond the university.  A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
