The Operations Manager is responsible for a wide variety of senior level managerial/supervisory duties within the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR). Typical duties include the oversight of daily animal care, budget creation and oversight in assigned departments, coordination of site visits, assistance with renovation projects, creation and adherence to department procedures. The Manager reports to the ULAR Director and directly supervises the Associate Operations Manager and the Husbandry Supervisor. The incumbent indirectly supervises 18 Animal Technicians. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in an animal or related field of life sciences and at least six years of experience in a research animal facility within an academic/industry setting. AALAS/RLATG certification required. Demonstrated experience in management of mid-level supervisors. Demonstrated experience working with both large and small animal species. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations and policies concerning the care of laboratory animals.
*Ability to create, maintain, revise and enforce departmental SOP's, policies, and guidelines.
*Demonstrated employee management skills with an emphasis on time management, problem solving, conflict resolution, cultural diversity, adaptability, and creativity.
*Demonstrated organizational, communication (verbal/written), interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
*Ability to utilize and troubleshoot husbandry-related equipment.
*Computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint, along with demonstrated presentation skills.
*Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and provide budgetary projections.
*Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
*Master's Degree in related life sciences
*AALAS/CMAR and/or ILAM certification.
*Experience with eSirius management system or similar.
