The Lead Data Communications Technician (DCT) is responsible for the installation, maintenance and support of data computer communication equipment throughout Temple University and Temple University Health System. The DCT performs troubleshooting of installed equipment and cabling utilizing various types of test equipment. The DCT must be proficient in set-up and configuration of personal computers and have both a working knowledge of TCP/IP and wireless LAN (WLAN) technologies. This position works closely with the Network Engineering Group in support of the network infrastructure. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least one year experience in the installation and configuration and troubleshooting of Layer 2 Switches. Demonstrated experience using basic Local Area Network (LAN) Test Equipment, Cable Tester and Hand & Light Power Tools. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Working knowledge of TCP/IP including, IP Addressing, Sub-netting, Virtual LANS (VLANS), Domain Name Service, (DNS) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. (DHCP).
*Basic understanding of wireless LAN (WLAN) technologies.
*Demonstrated ability to configure and support Ethernet switches and IP client devices.
*Proficiency in personal computer (PC) set-up and configuration.
*Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of individuals and work within a team environment.
*Demonstrated attention to detail.
*Proficiency with electronic e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
*Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
*Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and to periodically work overtime to perform network maintenance.
*Valid driver's license.
*Ability to lift equipment that may weigh approximately 50 pounds.
*Ability to climb on a ladder.
