Academic Advisor I

This job expired 2 months ago.The Advisor I, at the College of Education, will assist students in making decisions affecting their academic progress at the University through personal guidance, changes in major courses of study, interpretation of University and School guidelines and policies, administrative counsel, development in student support systems, and decisions based on an analysis of the students' academic records. The incumbent will also assist in developing and maintaining a productive, organized system of advising undergraduate students through one on one and small group contact. This includes counseling all academic levels of undergraduate students and providing support through creative programming and networking. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree with at least six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Access or related software programs.
*Demonstrated ability to work with student information systems.
*Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with students in group settings.
*Demonstrated customer service skills along with the ability to work and interact with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.
*Demonstrated ability to work with others as part of a team in a dynamic and busy environment.
*Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as necessary.
*Ability to travel to other Temple University campuses.
Preferred:
*Knowledge of automated advising systems.
*Degree in Education or experience in an education related field.
