Job Description:
The Executive Director of the Kindercollege Lab Schools (the college’s Kindercollege Lab Schools in both Newburgh and Middletown) is responsible for the overall functioning, operation and accreditation of the College’s two Kindercollege Lab Schools. The Executive Director will ensure all compliancy with applicable licensing, regulatory and accrediting bodies. Develop and supervise classroom programs, curriculum and schedules to ensure best practices and developmentally appropriate practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for developing and implementing the Early Childhood Education component, placing emphasis on the needs of children and parents.
2. Responsible for developing, supervising and directing the curriculum development.
3. Establish and implement policies for the operation of the Kindercollege Lab Schools on both campuses in accordance with applicable regulations. Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal laws, and licensing regulations relating to the Kindercollege Lab Schools’ operation.
4. Maintains an updated Staff Manual and Family Handbook.
5. Establish fees and the procedure for collecting fees.
6. Ensure that the Kindercollege Lab Schools’ physical facilities are maintained in a manner suitable for the School’s programs. Orders and maintains equipment and supplies for the proper operation of the Kindercollege Lab Schools.
7. Develop and market the Kindercollege Lab Schools’ programs in collaboration with the Office for Institutional Advancement.
8. Organize and conduct the process for enrollment of children and conducts an orientation program for children and parents.
9. Ensure that the Kindercollege Lab Schools are staffed with qualified persons ensuring all applicable procedures and regulations are followed and appropriate documentation is on file.
10. Ensure the Kindercollege Lab Schools’ staff are properly oriented to the policies, procedures and regulations for operation of the Kindercollege Lab Schools, conduct in-service training programs, and document required training in accordance with State requirements.
11. Ensure that the program and staff members are evaluated on an annual basis to include input from parents and staff. Additionally ensure that children are regularly observed and assessed using developmentally appropriate methods and that feedback on children’s progress is regularly shared with parents.
12. Develop an effective communication system among staff members through regular staff meeting, conferences, and informal conversations. Regular communication with Education Department Chair and Field Supervisors must also be facilitated through informal conversations, email, and attendance at monthly Education Department Meeting.
13. Participate in professional organizations in order to remain up to date in early childhood development practices and philosophy and represents the College in the various professional organizations.
14. Responsible for developing and staying within annual operating budget.
15. Responsible for writing grants, proposals, other financial documents; Organization and implementation of fund raising activities.
16. Responsible for the general administration, supervision and direction of the Kindercollege Lab Schools.
17. Responsible for integration of Orange County Community College Early Childhood AAS program, facilitating access to the Kindercollege Lab Schools to Education faculty and students for classroom observation, laboratory experiences, as well as student-teaching experiences. Also responsible to initiate, develop, and coordinate the integration of other Orange County Community College academic programs.
18. Facilitate and maintain an advisory group for the Kindercollege Lab Schools which includes the appropriate internal and external constituents.
19. All other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
Education Preferred:
Completed or the ability to attain within five years from date of hire at least 9 credit-bearing hours of specialized college-level course work in administration, leadership and management (which can be in school administration, business management, communication, technology, early childhood management or administration, or some combination of these areas.) And at least 24 credit-bearing hours of specialized college-level course work in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education that encompasses child development and children’s learning from birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; the practices of observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning processes; and professional practices and development.
Experience Required:
Five (5) years full-time teaching experience in a child day care, Lab School, family or group home or other childhood program. Three (3) years of experience supervising staff.
Other requirements:
Completion of an annual physical form by a Health Care Practitioner documenting current health status including a negative TB test. Verification from the New York State Child Abuse/Maltreatment Registry that the individual is not indicated as the subject of an abuse or neglect charge. Current certification of completion of training in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
• Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationship with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees and the public.
• Ability to manage multiple projects.
• Must be able to travel between the college’s two campuses and other sites.
• Bilingual Skills preferred.
