The SUNY Geneseo Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Costume Design, beginning August 2014, for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal.
The successful candidate will be expected to design, acquire and construct the costumes for all faculty theatre and dance productions and teach one course each semester in costume design, costume history, costume construction and makeup. The position also requires that the candidate supervise student designers and technical assistants while managing and maintaining the shop and overseeing the costume storage. Active participation in College committees, student recruitment, advisement and mentoring is expected.
Required qualifications include an MFA in Costume Design or related field by August 2014; prior experience in designing/acquiring costumes for live theatre productions and in managing a costume shop; skill in costume design and production; preparation to teach undergraduate courses in costume design/history.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience supervising/mentoring undergraduates in costume design; prior experience teaching undergraduate courses in a liberal arts context; evidence of successful collaboration with directors, choreographers, and other designers; evidence of strong problem solving skills; and prior experience in the design of dance costumes.
