Assistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education
Language and Literacy
The Teacher Education Department in the School of Education at St. Edward’s University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Elementary Language and Literacy Education to begin Spring 2014/Fall 2014. We seek candidates with a commitment to undergraduate education and mentoring, strong communication skills, and collegiality. New hire will teach courses in elementary reading and literacy as well as courses in elementary teaching methods and classroom management. A specialty or experiences with English as a Second Language programs is preferred. This position includes work in field-based “block courses,” thus local travel, intern observation, and supervision will be required. The faculty member will ordinarily teach 8 courses per year (4 per semester), but intensive work in the Block Courses warrant a reduction.
Teach 8 undergraduate courses per academic year
Teach courses in reading and literacy as well as courses in elementary teaching methods and classroom management
Actively engage in advising, program-building activities, departmental, school, university, community and professional service
Engage in professional development activities such as scholarship, pedagogical training and curriculum development
Support and contribute to the Holy Cross Mission of St. Edward’s University
Ph.D./Ed.D in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Reading and Literacy (preferred in hand by December, 2013)
Strong commitment to research and teaching
Evidence of excellence in teaching
Evidence of scholarship and/or scholarly potential
Strong commitment to social justice
Demonstrate an appreciation for and commitment to diversity.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills required
Excellent interpersonal skills required
