Voyage: 2015 Fall

General Responsibilities: The Psychologists are responsible for coordinating, implementing, and evaluating mental health care for voyage participants.

Specifically, the position:

-Provides high quality individual and group counseling services to participants who may be experiencing psychological, behavioral, or learning difficulties

-Provides programs focused on the developmental needs of college students to maximize the potential of students to benefit from the academic environment and experience

-Provides consultative services to the faculty and staff to help foster an environment supportive of the intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical development of students

-Provides assessment services to identify student needs and appropriate services and referrals

-Serves on-call for consultation in port (rotated among both psychologists) for situations that need attention and crisis management

-Reports to the Physician and is a member of the Medical Team (with secondary membership in the Student Life team).

-Prior to voyage departure, participates in a training session via conference call

Minimum Qualifications: 5+ years of experience as a staff member or administrator in counseling services in higher education

An appropriate combination of graduate course work, formal training, and supervised experience, to include:

-A doctoral degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, or other related discipline from an accredited institution

-Hold state or provincial licensure or certification

-Carry professional practice liability insurance

Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex and dynamic environment

Flexibility and a mindset of getting things done essential

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to relate effectively with Program constituents

Ability to exercise good judgment on a range of issues

Ability to handle emergencies
