Oversees internal communication projects/publications as well as all aspects of media interaction with the university; plans and directs communications strategies and programs designed to create, enhance and maintain a favorable public image for the university. Researches packages and pitches stories for external media placement (electronic and print); responds to media inquiries and requests for faculty/field experts. Assists in the development and maintenance of local, regional and national media lists; manages production of university newsletters and oversees distribution to various audiences. Interviews, researches and writes media releases, features for university publications, website, etc.; oversees and monitors social media strategies. Works collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications staff to develop strong relationships with other administrative and academic departments to identify newsworthy stories for possible media placement and/or inclusion in university publications, website, etc.; and performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum of a bachelor's degree in journalism, writing, English language/literature or related fields with at least three years of relevant work experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to organize and present ideas, materials, and concepts accurately, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and manage multiple tasks, deadlines and schedules. Familiarity and experience with social media platforms and digital photography basics desired; background and/or credit check required.
