Educational Experience Requirement: Ph.D. in Counseling/Clinical Psychology or related field. Experience working in a college or university counseling center setting would be helpful. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature and Purpose of Position: To provide mental health counseling to the Sam Houston State University student population.
Primary Responsibilities: Conduct individual, couple, and group counseling, perform psychological assessments, provide workshops and other outreach programs to the university community, consult with faculty, staff, parents and students regarding mental health issues, provide crisis intervention coverage, and other specific duties as needed. Provide documentation and administrative detailing to client files. Supervise graduate students in psychology or counseling programs. This is advanced professional work which may require the development of new or improved techniques and procedures with some latitude for independent action and decision. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications: Demonstrated commitment and competency to work in a university counseling center environment with a broad range of students, including first generation college students and those students coming from traditionally under served populations. This is a post doctoral or pre LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor, internship position. The incumbent will receive appropriate supervision towards fulfillment of post degree hours needed for licensure. This is a temporary position that is expected to last from - August 16, 2014 to August 15, 2015.
