Reporting to the Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, the Director of Graduate Admissions and Academic Services is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the recruitment, admissions, and retention of SJC graduate students. Works closely with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and the SGPS Dean to implement a recruitment effort targeting prospective students seeking master’s and doctoral degrees. Collaborates closely with graduate program directors to implement policies and deliver services to support graduate students in achieving their academic and professional goals.

Responsibilities ( include but are not limited to ):

  • Manage and supervise the graduate admissions, & academic services functions and staff of the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies
  • Develop and implement proactive graduate student marketing and recruitment initiatives
  • Coordinate with Marketing Department in the development of centralized graduate marketing materials and collaborate with graduate programs to ensure ongoing accuracy and effectiveness
  • Work with the graduate directors of the various graduate programs in support of overall graduate student enrollment and academic goals
  • Ensure quality and consistency in admissions processing for graduate applicants
  • Supervise monitoring of compliance with state distance learning regulations
  • Ombudsperson for student issues complaints, petitions, or other requests for consideration
  • Manage the budget for Graduate Admissions and Academic Services
  • Monitor and update graduate sections of the collegecatalog and administrative policies.
  • Contributing member of the Graduate School Committee meeting as a resource for administrative and academic topics.
  • Develop programs to enhance student experiences (on and off campus), including activities, communications, on-line services, registration, thesis support, and graduation.
  • Provide academic advisement and counseling to graduate students as needed
  • Manage special projects designed to promote key strategic goals
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Five years of professional work experience in graduate recruitment, admissions, and academic services preferred, with record of achievement in achieving growth in graduate student enrollment
  • Candidates should demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including academic computing, web writing/design.
  • Knowledge of standard higher education marketing and communication strategies
  • Supervision experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially, balance and prioritize assignments, manage projects, problem solve and experienced in conflict resolution
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, general database knowledge and ability to learn new software programs such as Microsoft Publishing required
  • Experience with on line programs preferred
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills necessary
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student population
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility to work scheduled evenings and Saturdays planned throughout the semester
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Grade 40
