Saint Joseph College was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy to provide higher education opportunities for women. The College offers its students solid professional training through a values-infused liberal arts curriculum. Consistently cited on the national level for the quality of its academic programs, Saint Joseph College is committed to responding to the needs of an ever-changing society. Nationally recognized for the quality of its academic programs, SJC serves a diverse, intergenerational student body enrolled in the undergraduate Women's College or in the coeducational programs serving continuing education and graduate students. The 84-acre West Hartford ca

mpus houses The Women's College, the coeducational Prime Time Program and The Graduate School. The Women’s College offers more than 30 academic majors, pre-professional programs, and accelerated bachelor’s-to-master’s degree programs and opportunities for leadership through scholarship, co-curricular activities and service. Adults may earn bachelor’s degrees through the flexible and convenient format provided through The Prime Time Program. The Graduate School offers women and men master’s degrees in the arts, sciences, health care, education and other professional areas. The College is also home to two laboratory schools. The School for Young Children, one of the oldest early childhood centers in the state, serves as an on-site laboratory for preschool teacher training. The Gengras Center, serving children and young adults with special needs; it doubles as a teacher training site for special education teachers.

The Carol Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities comprises two facilities: The Bruyette Athenaeum and Lynch Hall. The Bruyette Athenaeum houses a 365-seat auditorium and an art gallery that showcases the College's extensive fine arts collections and visiting exhibitions. Many classrooms and faculty offices are located in Lynch Hall. The O'Connell Athletic Center features a fitness center, a multipurpose gymnasium with an indoor track, a dance studio and a six-lane pool; it is home to the College’s NCAA Division III Blue Jays varsity teams and the Athletic Department. It is complemented by a new outdoor athletics complex.

The campus is easily accessible and offers ample parking, residence halls, newly renovated dining facilities, The Pope Pius XII Library with over 133,700 volumes and on-line resources, and an Information Technology Network Center.

Our gracefully designed campus features Georgian brick architecture and beautiful landscape created by Olmsted, the designer for Central Park. The 84-acre campus is only one mile from West Hartford's thriving downtown, three miles from Hartford, and mid-way between Boston and New York City.

More than 80% of SJC faculty hold terminal degrees, and also includes four Fulbright Scholars. All classes are taught by faculty, never teaching assistants, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 11:1, allowing for mentorship and personal attention.
