Purdue University is seeking an energetic and passionate leader to serve as their next Director of the Latino Cultural Center. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, the new Director will provide strategic vision, leadership, and daily administration for a vibrant cultural center in line with the mission and goals of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion. This student-centered professional works in partnership with the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, 17 Latino-based student organizations, Latino Faculty/Staff Association, Purdue Latino Alumni Organization, and Latin American and Latino Studies program to advance the recruitment, engagement, retention, and graduation of Purdue students. The Director is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Latino Cultural Center, including the development and implementation of services, programs and projects of the Center as well as budget, staff supervision, assessment and fundraising efforts. The successful candidate will coordinate programs to further engage the Purdue Community to foster a more welcoming and inclusive environment focused on student success; represent the Latino Cultural Center and Purdue University to the external Latino community at the local, state and regional level; and be a social advocate with a strong awareness of the political issues facing the Latino community. The Director oversees a program coordinator, secretary, graduate assistant, and several undergraduate student workers with an annual operating budget of just over $200,000.
The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in higher education administration or a comparable field and must possess a minimum of five years of professional higher education or similar experience in a setting focused on student development, advocacy, and the development and implementation of cultural programs; additional experience with study abroad and/or teaching is highly desirable. The ideal candidate must possess visionary and collaborative leadership skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; passion for working with students; ability to work well in individual and group settings; proven success in program development; knowledge and appreciation for Latino cultures; fluency in Spanish; and an understanding of the complexities of working at a large, public, land-grant institution.
