Waubonsee Community College is a comprehensive two-year college offering more than 130 degrees and certificates in today's most desirable fields. Organized in 1966, it provides education and training services for the residents and businesses of Illinois District 516.
The Educational Specialist for Upward Bound reports to the TRiO Upward Bound Manager and is responsible for providing academic support and programming to participants.
Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of classroom and after-school workshops.
Engage collaboratively with Waubonsee Community College and East Aurora High School staff to explain the program and identify eligible students.
Become familiar with students including academic history, schedule, workload, and personal/family situations as appropriated.
Monitor student progress as well as student outcomes in collaboration with project staff and East Aurora High School counseling.
Work with Waubonsee Community College and East Aurora High School staff to provide both an academic year and summer component to the program.
Assist in collecting and analyzing data to compile program outcomes.
Assist with the TRiO mentoring component and identify professional and motivational guest speakers.
Plan and lead topical workshops and college readiness group discussions.
Assist with the participant intake process, file management, update of the student information database, and monthly auditing of participant files.
Participate in the planning and implementation of off-campus college visits and cultural enrichment activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the TRiO Upward Bound Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field required.
Minimum of one year experience working with a diverse at-risk population, including students who are from low income communities, have physical or learning disabilities, or are first generation college students.
Experience developing and delivering academic and college readiness workshops.
Excellent communication, organizational and human relations skills.
