The American Council of Learned Societies invites applications for the 2013 competition of the Public Fellows program. The program will place 20 recent PhDs from the humanities and humanistic social sciences in two-year staff positions at partnering organizations in government and the nonprofit sector. The positions and organizations are listed below. The program, made possible by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, aims to expand the reach of doctoral education by demonstrating that the capacities developed in the advanced study of the humanities have wide application, both within and beyond the academy.

In 2013, the ACLS Public Fellows will be appointed to the following positions:

• American Antiquarian Society – Digital Humanities Curator
• Amnesty International – Policy Analyst
• BronxWorks – Program Analyst
• CARE (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere) – Policy Advisor
• Center for Investigative Reporting – Media Impact Analyst
• Center for Jewish History – Senior Manager for Academic and Public Programs
• Chicago Humanities Festival – Program Manager
• City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs – Arts Manager
• Digital Public Library of America – Project Manager
• Feminist Press – Development Associate
• Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Office of Global Education – Program Officer
• Internews – Development Officer
• International Student Exchange Programs – Associate Director for Special Projects

• U.S. Department of State – Various Positions
• Vera Institute of Justice – Planning Associate

Applications are accepted only through the ACLS Online Fellowship Application system (http://ofa.acls.org [8]) by March 27, 2013. Please do not contact any of the organizations directly. See http://www.acls.org/programs/publicfellows [7] for complete position descriptions and application information.

Competitive applicants will have been successful in both academic and extra-academic experiences and aspire to careers in administration, management, and public service by choice rather than circumstance. To be eligible, applicants must possess U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status; have a PhD in the humanities or humanistic social sciences conferred between January 2010 and the application deadline; and not have applied to any other ACLS fellowship programs in the 2012-2013 competition year, including the New Faculty Fellows program.
