Williams College is seeking applications and nominations for a full-time, year-round position as Associate Dean. The Dean’s Office is responsible for helping students with all aspects of their personal and academic experience, handles disciplinary concerns in collaboration with Campus Safety and Security, and leads collaborations between student affairs departments and academic units. Four deans share the work of supporting all students and assisting the Dean of the College with disciplinary cases. Many deans also have particular emphases and/or oversee programming. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College.
The Associate Dean will lead the office’s work in supporting the academic and extracurricular success of first generation college students. This position includes leading the planning and execution of programming for these students throughout the year, including first-year orientation programs. The Associate Dean is a member of the Diversity Action Research Team— a strategic planning group that collects and analyzes institutional data to better understand emergent issues related to diversity and inclusion, and proposes initiatives to facilitate the development of a community where all can live, learn, and thrive. In addition, all deans participate in on-call rotation which includes some evening, night, and weekend work.
We seek a dean who will be independent, creative and driven, but also eager to collaborate with a large team to support the success of each student. Candidates should have a graduate degree and at least three years of relevant experience in higher education. A background and interest in supporting low-income and first generation students, and in improving the college experience for all students, is required.
