The Nurse Practitioner working under the supervision of a collaborating physician provides primary care to students by assessing and managing routine acute/chronic problems and performs routine health prevention care, while consulting with the appropriate medical staff when further consultation is warranted. Responsibilities include; obtaining health history and performing physical examinations, recommending appropriate treatments, prescribing under physician supervision unless has independent prescriptive license, and assisting in the development of nursing and nurse practitioner protocols. In addition, the Nurse Practitioner provides gynecologic care to female students, coordinates follow-up for patients seen, documents clearly and appropriately in medical charts, performs phlebotomy, participates in staff meeting, and promotes health education and illness prevention initiatives throughout the university. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
B.S.N. with a Master's degree in nursing, and must be licensed and certified as nurse practitioner in the state of Pennsylvania with a minimum of three years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Must have the ability to travel to other campuses to render care as needed.
*Ability to use all standard office equipment, and software including MS Office.
*Ability to use the following equipment: stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, blood pressure cuffs, pelvic exam instruments, culture swabs, syringes, needles, test tubes, vacutainers, butterfly syringes, and other supplies.
*Must maintain continuing education requirements for licensure, and remain up-to-date in area of practice.
*Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems within established policies, and use independent judgment.
*Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and doctors.
Preferred:
*Experience in college health, woman's health care, family practice or emergency medicine.
