Plan and supervise the work required to maintain all the formal landscaping, natural and desirable landscape features, drivers, walks, athletic fields, surface storm drainage and other outdoor areas on East and West Campuses of Duke University and certain other designated local off-campus properties.
Manage, plan and coordinate grounds maintenance, cleaning and repair of streets, walks and parking areas, including the removal of snow, preparation and readiness of athletic facilities and playing fields for sporting events and physical education classes.
Make work assignments through a foreman for the tree maintenance crew.
Review and evaluate procedures and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations.
Plan and schedule work for Grounds Maintenance Personnel to ensure proper distribution of maintenance effort.
Evaluate equipment and tools and determine maintenance and replacement schedules.
Evaluate available new equipment and materials and recommend purchasing specifications.
Plan and arrange meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and procedures and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
Manage personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Preferred and Competitive Qualifications for this position:
Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management or
related field.
Knowledge of NCAA intercollegiate athletic
field management.
North Carolina Pesticide License or the
ability to obtain licensure within six months of employment.
Knowledge of small engine equipment
maintenance.
5 years of supervisory experience.
Ability to utilize computer software to plan,
execute, and record landscape maintenance projects and activities.
Effective written and oral communication
skills.
