Xavier University is a private university located in Cincinnati, Ohio, providing a liberal arts education in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. Founded in 1831, the University is the sixth-oldest Catholic university in the nation. U.S. News & World Report ranks it No.4 among master’s-level universities in the Midwest, and The Princeton Review names it as one of the “Best 376 Colleges in America.”
Xavier University is in the midst of formalizing a new strategic plan. At the heart of the plan is an increased focus on student learning and development. A key outcome of that focus will be graduating students who are ready to pursue professional work, further their education in professional or graduate school, or engage in other meaningful activities that align with their passions. The Career Development Office will play a key role in helping students to meet this desired outcome.
To that end, the Assistant Director will be part of team charged with engaging students in career planning and development. He or she will work as part of a University wide system which will ensure that each student at Xavier has developed a plan which integrates their personal, academic and professional goals. While it is important for students to plan for what they will do after graduation, Xavier considers it equally important that student also consider who they will become as citizens in a global world. The Assistant Directors and the career coaches who support them are key contributors to creating and actualizing these plans.
The successful candidate will be innovative and collaborative, able to help the institution further its progress in establishing itself as leader in the field of career development. He or she will be adept at operating in an environment with many constituents including but not limited to students, deans, faculty, alumni, advisors, directors of student services units, parents, and employers. A strong understanding of student development of traditional age undergraduates, adults returning to school and graduate students is desired. Finally a relentless commitment to student success is key.
