The University of Connecticut Journalism Department seeks a visual journalist with experience in photography, videography, online production, multimedia presentation and visual editing for a tenure-track position beginning in Fall 2013. The department, an ACEJMC accredited program in a new facility, is a professional news-editorial program within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This position expands on current multimedia offerings, which are offered across the curriculum. Responsibilities will include: teaching the skills, theory and ethics of visual journalism to undergraduate majors, publishing visual journalism or research about visual journalism, advising students and participating on departmental committees.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in journalism or a related field; 10 years of significant professional experience as a visual journalist; excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrable ability to teach the skills, theory and ethics of visual journalism; experience in a converged media environment; and knowledge of appropriate software.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional experience; demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level; demonstrated ability in data visualization or print or online design; the ability to contribute through research, teaching or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience. Demonstrate ability in photography, videography, online production and multimedia presentation.
Tenure-track, 9-month appointment.
