FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology Department is entering a new phase of growth and program development and seeks experienced faculty members who will provide significant leadership as the department's new B Tech degree in Construction Engineering Technology is fully developed. The department has a record of consistent enrollment growth and facilities expansion over the past several years.

The mission of the Department of Construction Management & Civil Engineering Technology at New York City College of Technology is to educate students for careers as technicians in the fields of construction management and civil engineering. Our focus is on the fundamental concepts and technical skills required to create a wide range of career paths in the construction and civil engineering profession. We balance practical knowledge with theory. The department has maintained a long tradition of educating non-traditional students of diverse backgrounds for successful entry into the construction industry. Through excellence in teaching and community service, the department promotes opportunities for scholarly, personal, and professional growth. The department is also committed to maintaining a diverse faculty of professional engineers and architects.

The Department of Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology offers the following programs:
- Bachelor of Technology, Construction Engineering Technology (pending final State approval)
- Civil Engineering Technology/AAS (TAC/ABET)
- Construction Management Technology/AAS
- Construction Management/Certificate

In addition, the Department administers the following special programs:
- ACI Certification: Field Inspection of Fresh Concrete - Level I
- NICET Test Site - National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
- NSPS testing Site - National

The successful candidate will teach courses in Transportation, Route Surveying, Site Planning/Land Development & Design and GIS. Evidence of an ability to teach other areas in Civil Engineering Technology. Candidates must have knowledge in the use and fundamentals of modern measurement methods, equipment and software. In addition, applicants must be experienced in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS and StarNet to process and adjust survey data. Applicants should have experience creating DTMs, creating topologies, populating data tables, creating queries and 3-D models. The department seeks candidates who can incorporate new technologies across our programs to enhance our students' roles as technology agents for the New York City construction industries. Industry experience in the New York City metropolitan area is highly valued.

In addition to teaching assignments, faculty members will be involved in student recruitment, student activities, job placement and outreach activities. Faculty members are expected to pursue scholarly activities at a level appropriate to engineering technology. The candidate will also participate in all department activities, curriculum development, and serve on college committees. Teaching assignments will include day, evening and Saturday courses.

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in Civil Engineering or closely related field from an accredited institution is required for this position. Professional registration (P.E.) is not required for the position but is desired. Significant relevant industrial experience (minimum 5 years) in transportation, site planning, engineering surveys and GIS/GPS applications; excellent written and oral communication, and computer skills are required. University level teaching experience will be a major consideration for this position; preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience at the college level. 

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
