Dean College invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. We seek a dynamic, inspiring, visionary leader with experience building and sustaining programs in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Sport Fitness Studies. The Dean oversees the College’s baccalaureate degree program in Liberal Arts and Studies and the eleven associate degree programs as well as directs general education course offerings. The new Dean will be instrumental in building the national reputation for Dean College in these areas.
Reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Planning, the Dean is responsible for providing leadership, management, and oversight of all aspects of the School including degree programs in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Sport Fitness Studies. Core responsibilities include: program planning and development, with a focus on building the regional and national visibility of the programs in order to grow enrollments; collaboration with the Office of Admission on marketing degree programs in the School; curriculum development, including coordinating course offerings each semester; hiring, training, and supervision of full- and part-time faculty in the School; internal program reviews; student learning outcomes assessment; and budget oversight. The Dean also teaches one course each semester, and supervises the Department Chairs for Humanities and Social Sciences and Math/Science and Sport Fitness Studies.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline taught within the School. Prior experience as an academic administrator or department chair and a strong record of innovative program development, leadership and increasing administrative experience and responsibility. A minimum of 10 years college-level teaching experience is required. Given the extensive interdependence among the College’s academic programs, the new Dean will be highly versatile and knowledgeable in managing all program areas within the School. The ability to think strategically and work collaboratively regarding program development, faculty development, enrollment management, and resource management with the goal of growing programs within the School is critically important.
