Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: March 1, 2013
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct research and development in advanced materials and manufacturing techniques for defense and civilian purposes, work with manufacturing companies to transfer technology to strengthen the QC area economy, pursue research funding from federal (e.g., NSF, Department of Defense) and private sector sources. Operate and maintain laser manufacturing, spark plasma sintering, friction stir welding, and hot isostatic pressing equipment.
RANK & SALARY: Competitive Salary.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in engineering or related field. Because this position is government contracted, U.S. citizenship is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Manufacturing, materials science, and/or laser additive manufacturing experience preferred.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Quad City Manufacturing Laboratory (QCML), located at the Rock Island Arsenal, is a research lab focused on developing advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. QCML is aligned with WIU's recently established School of Engineering, which is housed at the WIU Quad Cities campus.

Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).
WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,235): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. The Quad Cities is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
