Smith College invites applications for an Instructional Technologist. This position is responsible for identifying and evaluating new and emerging technology that can be used in teaching and learning; consulting with faculty to identify technology that will assist them in meeting their pedagogical goals; informing faculty about best practices for using technology in their courses; and collaborating with Educational Technology Services (ETS) staff to identify trends in educational technology. This position is part of the instructional support team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and Evaluation: Identify and evaluate new and emerging technologies that might be used in teaching, learning, and research. Report on findings to the ETS and the Smith community. Assist in implementation of educational technologies.
Faculty Consultation: Consult with faculty to analyze instructional problems and identify appropriate technologies to meet pedagogical goals. Meet with faculty to discuss best practices related to technology in teaching and learning. Provide resources to faculty about current research on effective use of technology. Coordinate and communicate with other technology professionals on and off campus about issues related to the effective and efficient use of academic technology. Participate in ETS activities related to faculty outreach.
Instruction/Presentation: Conduct hands-on workshops for the Smith community. Present software and projects for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Participate in cross-team projects and perform other duties as required. Maintain professional skills by attending conferences, workshops, and trade shows.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Master’s Degree or equivalent experience and expertise. One to two year’s relevant experience. Experience in designing, developing, and delivering instruction in a higher education environment.
Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy; outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent customer service orientation and ability to interact with diverse constituencies; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work on a team as well as independently. Strong knowledge of educational technologies.
