The Department of Political Science at Jackson State University invites applicants for a tenure track position beginning August 15, 2013, with an emphasis in teaching research methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidate will hold the Ph.D. in Political Science and have a strong teaching and research record. We seek applicants with broad teaching and research interests in comparative politics or international relations who will contribute significantly to the diversity and internationalization of the political science curriculum. Located in the capital city, Jackson, Mississippi, the department emphasizes both the development of research skills and exposure to politics in practice at both the B.A. and M.A. levels. Jackson State University, founded in 1877, is a historically black, high research-activity university. Jackson State’s nurturing academic environment challenges individuals to change lives through teaching, research and service. Teaching load varies depending on faculty status and advising responsibilities of graduate students. All faculty are expected to participate in delivering college-wide first and second year core courses that emphasize writing, speaking, and the use of technology. In addition to teaching, faculty members are required to pursue research funding through grant development, and provide departmental, college and university service. Willingness to develop and teach on-line courses is necessary.
