Position Focus: Working as a member of the Southeast Asia Collection acquisitions and cataloging technical services group, performs a variety of library acquisitions tasks, in a variety of Southeast Asian languages and various formats, relating to collection material received by the Southeast Asia Collection. Working primarily with serials, monographs, and audio-visual materials, creates preliminary records and purchase orders for items. Upon receipt of acquired material, receives items, communicates with vendors when necessary to resolve acquisitions issues, and prepares invoices for payment.

1. Searches and verifies bibliographic data with incomplete information or source material in catalogs, reference sources, files and databases.
2. May prepare books for sale or assist with disposition of materials.
3. Prepares order forms for authorized library materials.
4. Composes and types correspondence and acknowledgements.
5. Communicates by phone and in writing with vendors and publishers to resolve problems.
6. May assign vendors and dealers. Identifies duplicates of material and prepares description of differences.
7. Instructs, revises the work and provides work direction to staff.
8. May assist in the coordination and distribution of work.
9. Performs additional clerical functions incidental to library activities.
Required Education and Experience
Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Skill/Ability 1: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and one or more of the non-western and indigenous languages of Southeast Asia, including but not limited to: Malay, Indonesian, Khmer, Lao, Thai, Burmese, or Vietnamese.
Required Skill/Ability 2: Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. Ability to enter data accurately.
Required Skill/Ability 3: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Required Skill/Ability 4: Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
Required Skill/Ability 5: Reliable attendance and punctuality and consistency and dependability in the performance of work assignments.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: 1. Malay or Indonesian language skills preferred.
2. Familiarity and practice with non-roman script keyboard for one or more of the indigenous non-roman script languages of Southeast Asia.
