Job Description:
SUNY Empire State College seeks an Assistant to the Dean at our Central New York Center located in East Syracuse, New York.
The Assistant to the Dean reports to the dean and has overall responsibility for supporting a variety of administrative and operational functions on behalf of the dean. The Assistant to the Dean also assists in the management of local media, community, alumni and government relations. Specific responsibilities are to:
• In coordination with the Dean and appropriate College offices manage local media, community, government, and alumni relations
• In coordination with appropriate College offices manage the Center’s social media presence
• Coordinate the Center’s internal and public events
• Manage Center facilities, including the Center’s Suspension of Operations notification process
• Draft letters, remarks, and reports for the Dean
• Coordinate/maintain the content of the Center’s website
• Provide administrative support to the Center’s planning committee meetings
• Carry out other responsibilities consistent with those outlined above
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Significant administrative experience in higher education; excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in sensitive communications; ability to organize, prioritize, problem-solve, collaborate and work independently; and excellent computer skills also required. Demonstrated commitment to diversity in higher education or the community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in administrative and operational support in a higher education setting, and experience working with non-traditional students.
