The department of Mass Communications at Savannah State University invites applications for the position of department chair, with term appointment to begin on July 1, 2013. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, and applicants should have scholarly credentials of research and publications appropriate to senior faculty rank. The chair is responsible for administering ACEJMC accreditation, fiscal, personnel, and curricular matters, advocating departmental interests, encouraging faculty scholarly productivity, and managing and maintaining the Title III grants. Salary competitive and commensurate with academic credentials and professional experience.
Ph.D. in Mass Communication or a related field and experience working with accreditation agencies. The department seeks an academician who values the liberal arts, diversity, the mission and interdisciplinary nature of mass communications degree program. Applicants should have scholarly credentials of research and publications appropriate to senior faculty rank. A record of active and continuing research, proven excellence in teaching and advising undergraduate students, the ability to work effectively with faculty and university administrators, strong communication and interpersonal skills essential; and evidence of leadership and administrative experience. Applicants with a demonstrated appreciation and understanding of multi-media, digital and multicultural communication are desirable.
