As a key member of the executive management team, the Assistant Vice President oversees one or more College functions to fulfill comprehensive program goals and contributes to overall College strategic objectives.  He/she plans and implements a range of successful programs; and oversees staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The City University of New York and Hunter College are in the midst of the Decade of Science.  Hunter is expanding its research capacity and profile and achieving new heights of academic distinction.  We seek an Associate Provost for Research who will help build a world-class, research-active, grant-funded research faculty in a variety of areas with a particular focus on science and health-related fields (e.g., nanoscience, environmental science, neuroscience, structural biology, information science, the behavioral sciences and public health).  The Associate Provost will also enhance doctoral education at Hunter in science and health-related fields, facilitate the construction and refurbishing of Hunter's research facilities and enhance the research environment to take advantage of infrastructure improvements. 

The Associate Provost for Research will work closely with the Provost to provide overall intellectual leadership in the research enterprise.  S/he will have the responsibility of promoting and developing research and scholarship throughout the College.  S/he will also be responsible for administering and monitoring all policies and procedures related to research, technology transfer, and economic development.  The Associate Provost will work closely with faculty and administrators to promote, encourage, and facilitate research and scholarly activities.  His/her efforts will be aimed at expanding research activities in all academic areas and develop new institutional research programs.

The Associate Provost for Research will report directly to the Provost. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Formulate strategic priorities that envision the future of research and scholarship at the College.
- Build relationships with government agencies, foundations, non-profits, and other external partners to support opportunities for faculty and students to engage in research and serve as consultants and interns.
- Develop proposals for institutional grants.
- Coordinate College-wide research activities.
- Represent the College in University research initiatives.
- Supervise the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, (IACUC) and compliance regulations as well as interact with the Office of Research Administration.
- Coordinate the upgrade and renovation of research facilities.
- Administer College-wide programs to allocate research incentive funds, including seed and bridge grants.
- Provide mentoring for junior faculty as they develop their own independent research programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
