The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York, invites applications for the position of part-time Building Manager. The Residential Life Department is seeking an energetic and dynamic individual for this position. The Building Manager is integral in helping determine the direction of the residential program and is responsible for an area of 400-500 residents. The role of the Building Manager is to establish and maintain a residence hall community conducive to the academic and personal growth of each resident, while consistent with the goals and objectives of the college.

Job Description:
The Building Manager is responsible for community development under the supervision of the Resident Counselor. This includes but is not limited to hall administration, programming, advisement and supervision of Resident Assistants and Residence Hall Community Council. S/he is involved in central office decisions as well as staff supervision, program development which includes but is not limited to the following: Maintain a daily log to update Resident Counselors and Residential Life team. Maintain necessary records such as requests for room switches and inventory updates. Assist with the coordination of check-in and check-out procedures, opening and closing of residence halls at the beginning and end of each semester, room changes, requests for accommodations and any related room assignment problems. Understand and support staff manuals, policies and procedures, and the mission of the Residential Life Department. Assist with the development and implementation of residence hall policies. Co-supervise and provide on-going evaluation and feedback for the Resident Assistants. Recruit and select student staff. Develop and facilitate fall/spring training, staff in-services, and staff development opportunities as needed under the direction of the Resident Counselors. Participate in Residential Life meetings, workshops and in-services. Hold meetings with the Resident Assistants and coordinate staff on-call scheduling. Meet regularly with the Resident Counselors and Residential Life Staff. Support the residence hall community council in developing programs, referring them to appropriate staff and campus resources, and assisting with programs and social events. Set expectations for Resident Assistant programming responsibilities including completion of program report/evaluations.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of student services/development plus two years of appropriate related experience.  Comprehensive understanding of student development philosophy, residence hall management and ability to work with a diverse student and staff population; demonstrated leadership abilities, organizational skills, and excellent skills in oral an written communications.

Additional Information:
Monday through Friday, 20hours per week, (4hr shifts, 9am -1pm or 1pm - 5pm) when the College is open, plus an on-call duty rotation to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Proposed start date is as soon as possible. This is a twelve month, part-time, live-in position. Attendance, support and participation at late night/weekend events/meetings is also required.
