Job Information/Department:
The School of Teacher Education (STE), College of Education, Florida State University, invites applications for an assistant professor tenure-earning position to start in Fall 2013. The position will involve teaching, research, and service in Special Education, a longstanding major program within STE. Special Education has recently restructured their areas of specialization to lead the State of Florida in the preparation of special education candidates. One of these specializations is Severe Cognitive Disabilities, which combines autism spectrum disorders and severe/profound disabilities. Thus, we seek a colleague who specializes in autism spectrum disorder with whom to collaborate in our academic community. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for the position include (1) maintaining a strong record of scholarship related to autism spectrum disorder including leadership in securing external funds to support the individual's scholarship and graduate training, (2) providing instruction, advising, and leadership in the School of Teacher Education at the undergraduate and graduate level, and (3) participating in service or civic engagement activities at the center, department, college, university, and professional organization levels.
Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, strong evidence of scholarly productivity, and potential for a funded independent research program. Desirable candidates should have an earned doctorate in education or other appropriate field, teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level, and expertise in children and youth with autism spectrum disorder. Expertise and experience with children and youth with severe levels of autism and alternative, augmentative communication (AAC) communication systems preferred.

This is a nine-month, tenure earning position at the assistant professor rank, with possible summer employment. The anticipated start date for this position is August, 2013 (Fall 2013 Semester.) Salary is negotiable.
