Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Provost for Institutional Research, Planning & Assessment will serve as a consultant on research issues, statistics, and survey design. The successful candidate will oversee the development of resource documents, databases, and analytical tools in support of the planning and budgeting process at Northern Michigan University. She or he will also serve on internal and external committees, work with the Provost to develop planning processes and academic benchmarks that reflect best practices and an assessment of peer performance, create enrollment and budget projections, coordinate curriculum development and research topics as requested, coordinate our accreditation effort, analyze staffing and equipment allocations, analyze budget allocations to the divisions within Academic Affairs, and oversee the creation of mandatory reports to the state and federal agencies.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Educational Research, Statistics & Evaluation, Assessment, or other appropriate field (Ph.D. in higher education research, planning or analysis preferred); Five years of relevant experience in an institutional research, assessment, institutional or budgetary analysis or management units in progressively senior level and leadership capacities; Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; Ability to develop planning and forecasting models; Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; Effective organizational management and leadership skills; Ability to work on multiple concurrent and frequently competing projects; Effectiveness in being able to deal with campus decision makers, faculty, staff as well as other internal and external constituencies.
