Reporting to the Executive Director of Gift Planning, the Director of Gift Planning will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gift planning prospects. Using a donor-focused approach, the Director will help alumni and Friends of the University integrate their estate, financial, and personal goals with giving opportunities at Temple University. The Director will provide gift planning support to several schools, colleges and business units within the University and will support the gift officers within those organizations through collaboration, strategic consultation, and education. The Director of Gift Planning will also perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree and a minimum of six years of experience in charitable fundraising at an educational institution, hospital, or other nonprofit organization; Demonstrated experience successfully managing a gift planning function
Demonstrated experience training major gift officers to recognize gift planning opportunities, collaborative opportunities for collaboration and strategy development .
Demonstrated experience stewarding gift planning donors to encourage Ambassador-like behaviors.
Demonstrated experience maintaining a portfolio of 120 prospect assignments, serving as either a primary or a secondary prospect manager.
Demonstrated experience assisting in the creation of gift planning prospect cultivation, proposal, and stewardship materials.
Demonstrated experience in gift, estate, and financial planning, as well as a strong understanding of gift planning options for complex assets, life income gifts, and estate administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated ability to complete 120 face-to-face visits, to cultivate 300 quality prospect contacts and at least 50 proposals.
*Ability to obtain 50 new Acres of Diamonds legacy society members.
*Ability to collaborate with School and Unit specific fundraisers on prospects and to create a strategy to maximizing giving for each assigned School and Unit.
*Ability to assist the Director of Gift Planning Marketing and Stewardship in creating technical and donor-centered gift planning marketing pieces and in identifying key Temple marketing segments.
*Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing, particularly to explain complex tax information in simple language to diverse audiences.

Preferred:
*Legal or financial background evidenced by a law degree, CPA, and/or CFP is highly desired.
*Additional training in aspects of charitable gift planning, including tax and inheritance law, as well as membership in the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) and PPP of Greater Philadelphia are preferred.
