World-class cultural amenities and a vibrant lifestyle attract highly qualified faculty and staff to the area; with an enrollment of over 9000 students. The university is one of five institutions comprising the University of Massachusetts system.

The Charlton College of Business offers seven undergraduate majors, an MBA, an MBA/JD joint degree, eight undergraduate minors and three graduate certificate programs. An International Business Minor program gives UMass students unique travel opportunities to study global business practices; and high-demand co-operative education and internship programs link students with major corporate partners in the commerce-intense region. The College fills an integral role in regional economic development through innovative collaborative programs, including the Center for Marketing Research, the Business Innovation Research Center, the University’s Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center, and other related activities.

The new Dean will have an earned doctorate in a business-related field and the accomplishments to earn tenured appointment at the rank of Professor; administrative experience in a university setting, demonstrated leadership with AACSB accreditation, a successful record of achievement in fundraising and developing/sustaining innovative external partnerships with public/private entities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
