Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing will assist in communicating the USF School of Law’s messages to internal and external audiences by implementing communications plans as developed by the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing. This will include working directly with faculty, deans and directors, staff, students, and alumni as well as members of the media and freelance writers, photographers, and graphic designers. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, writing, and editing skills, along with proven project management skills and the ability to work closely and creatively with a variety of constituencies.

Job Responsibilities:

• Publications

Responsible for the production of the department’s print publications, including event marketing mailers and advertisements, alumni and development publications, student recruitment materials, and faculty scholarship promotional pieces. Independently produce publications by writing content, directing design, working with faculty and deans on approvals, coordinating photography, and managing the printing, mailing, and overall budget. Create and edit content for USF Lawyer alumni magazine. Maintain a consistent look and accurate editorial style for all School of Law publications.


• Website

Make edits, additions, and general updates to website content using the university’s content management system. Write and upload news articles with photos to the homepage weekly. Maintain calendar of future homepage content. Update faculty scholarship and media listings, and alumni class notes monthly. Monitor site for consistent and accurate editorial style. Manage updates to social networking sites. Create content for monthly alumni e-newsletter.


• Design

Create select advertisements, brochures, and other collateral as needed using InDesign software.


• Financial Tracking

Manage overall budget for print publications. Prepare spreadsheets and financial transaction reports and develop budget and finance tracking tools.


• Administration

Establish and maintain databases and systems for publication production and inventories, media placement and faculty scholarship tracking, event calendars, and vendor files. Hire and supervise student assistant(s).


• Perform other related duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree and at least four years of experience in marketing, public relations, or communications. Excellent planning, project management, and organizational experience as well as superior oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel. Proven ability to successfully deliver high-quality work within a fast-paced environment with a diverse constituency, as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule in order to staff occasional evening and weekend events is required. Availability to work annual graduation ceremony in May.


Preferred:

Master’s Degree, familiarity with the mission of the USF School of Law, and experience with communication in a higher education setting. Experience with database management and Adobe Creative Suite desirable. Background with financial tracking is a plus.
