Fort Hays State University is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography.
Position starts August 2013. Teaching duties include a minimum of 12-credit hours per semester from the following courses: Cultural Geography, Urban Geography, Human Geography, US Geography, or suitable specialty classes including field trips. Responsibilities also include advising students, supervising graduate students, recruitment, and departmental, university, and community service. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Geography for tenure (ABD will be considered). Effective communication and interaction with undergraduate students, including non-major general education students, is essential. Applicants must have a focus on human-cultural-settlement geography and will be expected to teach courses in this area. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to distance learning, teaching at both the introductory and advanced levels, as well as a commitment to research. Collegiate teaching experience is preferred, including experience conducting field trips. Research focused on the Midwest is a strong plus as is interest in the application of technology for education. Collegiality in a department that includes both geologists and geographers is a must.
The Department of Geosciences has eight full-time faculty members with expertise in geology and geography. The Department offers B.S. degrees in Geology and in Geography plus a M.S. degree in Geosciences with emphasis on Geology or Geography.
