The College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks a full-time Director of Student Retention and Programming. The director will analyze student retention patterns, conduct focus groups, develop assessment measures, and teach a one-credit career preparedness course for undergraduates. The director will develop, coordinate, and implement student success initiatives for the overall student population in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts as well as identified student populations. The director will work closely with the Humanities and Fine Arts Advising Center, as well as other on-campus offices to develop new initiatives. The director reports to the Dean of the College.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree (preferably in higher education, guidance & counseling, social sciences, or related field)
• 3 years experience in one or more of the following areas in higher education: academic advising,
institutional research, psychological/counseling services, and student services areas such as residence
life, student activities, and academic support programs
• Demonstrated ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action in a fast
paced office environment
• Ability to collaborate with others to identify and achieve shared goals, as well as the ability to solve
problems and identify reasonable alternatives to complex situations
• Extensive knowledge of measurement and evaluation in higher education, as well as demonstrated
experience with survey research, focus groups, and interviews
• Experience working with student with a range of academic abilities (including honors level and
academically at-risk)
• Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Proficiency with work processing, spreadsheet, and data base programs (SAS or SPSS preferred)
• Experience working with a large, culturally diverse faculty and undergraduate student population
• Supervisory and training experience, working with both undergraduate and graduate students
• Teaching experience in a college setting

Hiring salary range: $44,300 - $55,500
Normal starting salary: $44,300 - $49,900
