The University of La Verne welcomes qualified applicants for the position of Director of Civic & Community Engagement (CCE) in the La Verne Experience Department. Reporting directly to the Director of the La Verne Experience, the Director of CCE will play a central role in the University-wide initiative called the La Verne Experience

Specific duties of the position include:
• Developing and maintaining relationships with community partners in order to promote and support a broad array of civic and community engagement activities on the main campus and the regional campuses
• Facilitating relationships between faculty/students/staff and community partners
• Collaborating with academic units to integrate civic and community engagement into the curriculum
• Conducting assessments to measure impact on community, community partners, the University, faculty, and student learning
• Providing faculty development on civic and community engagement pedagogy and community-engaged research
• Collaborating with University Advancement and the Office of Sponsored Research to identify and assist in the solicitation of external funding to support community-based initiatives
• Organizing, implementing and promoting campus-wide community engagement days
• Organizing annual Civic and Community Engagement Recognition Day
• Developing the infrastructure to successfully obtain the Carnegie Community Engagement classification
• Collaborating with Alumni Relations, providing support for the Citizen Alum program, and assessing the relationship between alumni community engagement and the degree of connectedness with the University
• Representing the University on external bodies, such as boards, or other roles that place the Director in the community

This position requires a Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of work experience and education. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in civic learning and community partnerships in higher education, or a similar level of experience in highly visible civic organizations that partner with institutions of higher education. Additionally, strong organizational and planning skills, excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, ability to manage data effectively and have the ability to work within and across diverse communities are necessary for this position. Successful candidate will have a proven track record in grant writing and community-engaged scholarship, a demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with employers, community partners, faculty, staff, and students, an understanding of nonprofit community-based organizations and local, regional, national, and international governmental agencies, be grounded in the theory and practice community-based research and community-based experiential pedagogies. Employment is contingent upon passing a complete background investigation.
