The Department of Mathematics and Philosophy at Columbus State University invites applications for a tenure track position in statistics/mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2013.
We seek candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research with the potential to make significant contributions to our future graduate program in Applied Mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics and Philosophy offers bachelor's degree programs in mathematics, applied math/statistics, and mathematics with secondary education; we are also committed to maintaining a proactive role in the mathematical preparation of K-12 teachers and are considering a graduate program in Applied Mathematics. Collaborative efforts between math, science, and education faculty recently led to the funding of two major grants (a UTeach replication grant worth up to $1.4 million and a Noyce Scholarship grant worth approximately $1.2 million) to be implemented over the next five years.
This position will be responsible for teaching Statistics and/or Mathematics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, research and scholarship, academic advising, service for the department and for the University.
Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in Statistics or Mathematics, though ABDs will be considered. Preference will be given to those with a specialty in statistics. Some experience in teaching and research beyond the Ph.D., as well as experience working with students in research at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; excellent communication skills; and demonstrated potential for outstanding research and teaching at all levels.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
